At SG Aqiqah, we offer two distinct ways for Muslims in Singapore to direct their wealth in a halal, purposeful way: the OwnerSheep Programme and Wakaf. They are fundamentally different in structure, intention, and outcome. This guide helps you understand the difference so you can make the right choice — or do both.
The OwnerSheep Programme is a physical livestock ownership arrangement by Aliyah Rizq Holdings. You purchase a minimum of 4 sheep, which are registered under your legal name and cared for at certified halal farms in Malaysia. You retain full ownership throughout the 36-month programme cycle. You receive bi-annual health and growth reports, can designate animals for Qurban or Aqiqah, and receive your share of proceeds when the flock is sold. It is structured under Milkiyyah (ownership) and Wakalah (agency) — both established Islamic legal principles. The OwnerSheep Programme is not a financial product and is not regulated by MAS.
Wakaf (also spelled Waqf) is a permanent Islamic charitable endowment. When you make a Wakaf contribution, you permanently give up ownership of an asset or funds for charitable benefit — typically for the upkeep of mosques, Islamic education, or community welfare. Once given, the contribution cannot be reclaimed. The reward (thawab) continues perpetually as long as the Wakaf asset benefits others — this is one of the most virtuous forms of Sadaqah Jariyah (ongoing charity) in Islam.
Ownership — In OwnerSheep, you retain full ownership of your sheep throughout the programme. In Wakaf, you permanently transfer ownership of the asset for charitable use.
Intent — OwnerSheep is structured for those who want to hold a halal physical asset. Wakaf is an act of worship and charity — giving for the sake of Allah with no expectation of return.
Proceeds — With OwnerSheep, you receive a share of sale proceeds when your flock is sold at the end of the 36-month cycle. With Wakaf, there are no proceeds — all benefit goes to the charitable cause.
Duration — OwnerSheep operates on a defined 36-month cycle. Wakaf is permanent — there is no end date.
Revocability — OwnerSheep can be exited at the end of the cycle. Wakaf is irrevocable — once made, it cannot be undone.
Yes — and many Muslims choose to. OwnerSheep and Wakaf are not mutually exclusive. They serve different intentions: one is a halal asset arrangement where you retain ownership, the other is a permanent charitable act where you give up ownership for Allah's sake. Some participants in the OwnerSheep Programme also contribute to our Wakaf al-Quran or Wakaf projects as a separate act of charity. The two complement each other rather than compete.
Ask yourself: what is your primary intention? If you want to hold a halal physical asset — real sheep registered under your name, managed professionally, with proceeds when the flock is sold — the OwnerSheep Programme is designed for that. If you want to make a permanent charitable endowment for the sake of Allah, with ongoing spiritual rewards for you and your family, Wakaf is the right choice. If you want to do both, SG Aqiqah can help you with either.
